2009 Recycled Yard Art Contest

2009 Winners

Congratulations to all who entered the contest for their creativity!

 
Hillsborough County Solid Waste Management Department, in conjunction with the Hillsborough County Cooperative Extension and the Hillsborough County Fair, sponsored the Recycled Yard Art Contest held at the Hillsborough County Fairgrounds from Wednesday, November 4 through Sunday, November 8, 2009.  Prize money was provided by Consolidated Resource Recovery, Inc. (CRR).  This event was open to all County residents and all age groups.  Entries were created mostly with recycled or recyclable materials and to withstand the elements for outdoor display.
 
A panel of judges voted for the first, second and third place winners.  The winners are listed below. Click on the thumbnails to see a full-size photo of their creations.

 

First Place Prize $100.00 – Bob Dickey for his Prehistoric Metal Dragon.  Bob created his metal dragon from truck parts, railroad parts, shovels, and chains.
Second Place Prize $75.00  – Alexander Fernandez for his Lawnmower Flowers.  Alexander created his flowers with old lawnmower blades, anchor bars, and plastic roll paper ends.
Third Place Prize $50.00    Susan Gillespie for her Mosaic Cat Planter.  Susan created her cat planter with old tiles, broken plates, and glass gems.
People’s Choice Award Prize $100.00  -   Bob Dickey for his Orchid on a tile base.
School Winner Award Prize $100.00 – Dowdell Middle School for their Toad Condo with Rooftop bird/squirrel feeder.

2008 CONTEST WINNERS...

First Place Prize, $100.00 – Don Hardy, for his Spirit of South Carolina creation.  Don cut glass from a blue bottle to make the sails and soldered the sails with copper.

 

 

Second Place Prize, $75.00 – Pamela Cleveland, for her birdbath made from old dishes and flower pots.

 

 

 

Third Place (TIE) Prize, $50.00 each – Bob Dickey, for his metal duck created from shovels and the Brandon South Rotary, for their Christmas wreath made from a bicycle wheel frame, spokes, tire, newspaper sleeves and Coca-Cola cans.

 

People’s Choice Award Prize, $100.00 – Bob Dickey, for his metal duck created from shovels.
